Description
Wherever you start your trip this guidebook will be invaluable for you. Authorised by the European Association of the Via Francigena Ways (EAVF).
A compact guide that you will refer to everyday of your trip, each page in full colour, with maps and profiling of all the stages.
The introduction contains a wealth of advice on planning and preparation
and tips for making the most of the walk.
The book describes the most popular final 400km of the Via Francigena pilgrim
route from Lucca to Rome and the Vatican City. Crossing Italy’s heartland,
the route goes through two of Tuscany’s most important cities, Lucca and
Siena, and visits medieval San Gimignano, Monteriggioni and Radicofani.
The route is described in 18 stages and is suitable for walkers of average
fitness.
Each stage has route directions and 1:100,000 mapping which shows the
route line and the facilities available at different locations. The book details
accommodation along the route, including invaluable information on lowcost
pilgrim hostels. There are city maps for Lucca, Siena, Rome and
Viterbo, and a stage planning guide that lists intermediate distances
between pilgrim accommodation, allowing the reader to customise their
walking schedule.
This is the first of a series of 3 Guide Books, Part 2 (Lausanne and the Great St Bernard Pass to Lucca) was published in June 2021, with Part 1 (Canterbury to Lausanne) to follow.
