The English language edition of the Booklet of Accommodation and Services (Pilgrims on the Via Francigena) as published by our French partner. Guidebook author Sandy Brown calls this accommodation guide ‘worth its weight in gold’. Many listings are only available in this guide as they are in private homes and not searchable online. You will need a valid pilgrim credential to access this accommodation. Pilgrims to Rome issues two styles of credentials: Shop credentials
If you plan to walk through France, this slim booklet (weighing only 90g) is a vital companion. The booklet has accommodation listings for the entire length of the VF from Canterbury to Rome. It includes accommodation for every budget, cafés, restaurants, food shops (their days and times of opening), and details of every Mairie (town hall) and Tourist Office, as well as the kilometres between them.
In tabular form it makes it simple to compare different accommodation and services by price and facilities.
This booklet has been, for several years, an essential resource for pilgrims walking or cycling through France on the VF. It proves that France is not a desert without accommodation or food, but a place rich in hospitality. Now with the inclusion of accommodation listings in Switzerland and Italy, the pilgrim will be well-prepared with this in their backpack.
